Hounds Walk It Off Against Gar-Pal

In a thrilling softball showdown, the Greyhound squad secured a dramatic 11-10 walk-off victory against visiting Gar-Pal on Thursday. The game reached a crescendo in the bottom of the fifth inning, knotted at 10 apiece, when Taylor Cromie’s patient at-bat ended with a crucial walk, driving in the winning run.

Both teams showcased their offensive prowess, with the Greyhounds tallying five hits and Gar-Pal notching eight in a high-scoring affair.

The Greyhounds orchestrated a stunning reversal in the second inning, turning a 2-5 deficit into a 5-2 lead with a five-run surge fueled by Lily Herndon’s groundout that brought in a key run.

Gar-Pal fought back fiercely, knotting the score at 6-6 in the third inning courtesy of Morgan Lentz’s inside-the-park home run, followed by solid hits from Inman and Emma Orf. However, a pivotal dropped third strike swung momentum back to the Greyhounds, who edged ahead 9-8 in the fourth inning on a series of strategic plays.

Gar-Pal mounted another comeback in the fifth, briefly seizing a 10-9 lead, only to see the Greyhounds rally once more in the bottom of the inning. Sammy Turner’s walk and Cromie’s subsequent run brought the Greyhounds to an exhilarating 11-10 lead that they held onto for the win.

On the mound, Reese delivered a gritty performance for the Greyhounds, striking out five and walking five over four innings to secure the win. In contrast, Bowechop of Gar-Pal faced tough challenges, giving up 11 runs on five hits over four innings, resulting in the loss.

Armstrong, Wolfe, Stewart, Green, and Stewart all contributed solid hits for the Greyhounds, with Armstrong, Stewart, and Turner having two RBIs each. The team showcased discipline at the plate, earning eight walks throughout the game, led by Green and Turner with two apiece. Additionally, Green and Wolfe demonstrated speed on the bases, executing multiple steals to keep the pressure on the Vikings. Collectively, the Hounds stole eight bases on the night.
