Boys’ Soccer Season Outlook
The Pullman Boys’ Soccer team is returning this season after losing some key players, including former leading scorer and University of Washington commit Clarence Dollins. They are also missing former wingers Taylor Newell, Marcelo Romero and striker Devin Ukaegbu. Despite these losses, the Greyhounds expect to have a good season, being led by captains Isaiah Bischoff, Nick Neville, and Owen Shulenberger. This year, the Hounds’ are hoping for their fifth straight league title and a state appearance to round out the season.
The returning players are ready to play after last year’s disappointment in the postseason with back-to-back losses in the district playoffs. Returning players such as Defensive MVP Nick Neville and 1st team all league midfielders, Senior Isaiah Bischoff and Junior Owen Shulenberger, accompanied by second team defender Senior Brigham Cordova and 2025 Coach of the year Doug Winchell, are attempting to meet the standards set last year following the undefeated regular season and a league title, and being ranked first in the WIAA RPI.
The Hounds’ play over a fourth of their season, starting from March 12th to March 19th, with games against North Central to open the season and league play, and traveling as far as Seattle to play against Evergreen High School from the King County League.
The Hounds’ have a rather experienced roster with six seniors, eight juniors and only 3 sophomores on the varsity roster this season, so expecting a high level of play should be considered. The only returning sophomore to varsity is Cannon Cordova, who had limited minutes last season. The other sophomores were either injured or on Junior Varsity as freshmen. On the other hand, 2025 Defensive MVP Nick Neville is making this season his fourth consecutive season on varsity. While former first-team all-league players Isaiah Bischoff and Owen Shulenberger are making this season their third year on Varsity. On the defensive side of the ball, the Greyhounds have a new keeper this season after losing Milo Wexler to the golf team. The new goalkeeper is Fernando Guzman, who played keeper for the junior varsity team last season.
The strength of the Hounds’ this year is their overall athleticism and their ability to work as a team, using their strong chemistry to work together efficiently. The Greyhounds also have strong knowledge of strategies and formations. The main competitors of the Hounds’ this season are most likely going to be the West Valley Eagles, who have a strong Senior and sophomore-comprised roster. The Eagles finished the season tied second with East Valley with a league record of 8-4 and an overall record of 13-5. The Greyhounds have a lot of goals for the season, Isaiah Bischoff said, “I believe when you play for a top program like ours, the goals as a team never change. We want to win our 5th straight league title as well as make it back to State.”
