Pullman Boys Tennis Tops Clarkston in Battle of GSL Unbeatens
The Pullman Greyhounds strengthened their hold atop the Greater Spokane League 2A standings with an impressive 5–2 victory over Clarkston in a showdown between the league’s top teams.
Pullman (4-2, 4-0) was powered by a dominant performance in doubles play, sweeping all three matches in convincing fashion. Leading the charge were twin brothers Daniel Lin and Issac Lin, who delivered a statement win at No. 1 doubles with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 performance.
The Greyhounds continued their doubles dominance with the first-time pairing of Matthew Yan and Lucas Wang, who showed immediate chemistry in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2. At No. 3 doubles, Nathan Yan and Olin Liu capped off the sweep with a strong 6-1, 6-3 win.
In singles play, the teams split the four matches. Clarkston’s Cody Whittle earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over reigning district champion Nathan Sutton in the No. 1 matchup, while Hudson Frost outlasted Daniel Schertenleib in a hard-fought three-set battle, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Pullman responded with two decisive singles victories. Svanik Bose controlled his match from start to finish in a 6-2, 6-2 win, and Kevin Chi followed with a strong 6-1, 6-2 performance to secure crucial team points.
The match highlighted Pullman’s depth and strength, particularly in doubles, which proved to be the difference against a tough Clarkston squad (3-2, 3-1).
After the match, Pullman head coach Cody Wendt reflected on the competition with a creative touch, sharing a poem that captured the spirit of the contest:
“A worthy battle ’twas between the Bantams and the Hounds;
Which the Pullman boys did carry, claiming five of seven rounds.
Whether running down balls for survival, or raining them down from above,
For their teammates and their rivals, they do fill the court with love.”
With the win, the Greyhounds remain unbeaten in league play and continue to establish themselves as a top contender in the GSL 2A this season.
