Greyhounds Take Down Evergreen, 2-1

The Pullman Greyhounds boys soccer team continued its strong early-season form with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Evergreen on Saturday, March 28.

Pullman struck first in the opening half, setting the tone early. At the 13-minute mark, Owen Shulenberger took a corner kick that bounced off a defender and into the net to give the Greyhounds a 1–0 lead heading into halftime. Despite Evergreen applying pressure and outshooting Pullman 14–10 on the match, the Greyhounds’ defense held firm, anchored by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Fernando Guzman, who had eight saves.

The second half proved decisive. With the match still hanging in the balance, Aaron Swenson delivered the game-winning moment in the 73rd minute, finishing a setup from Isaiah Bischoff to extend Pullman’s lead to 2–0. Evergreen responded late with a goal in the 80th minute, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Pullman’s goalkeeper play from Fernando Guzman and timely scoring from the Hounds made the difference, as Evergreen managed just one goal despite a higher shot total. Evergreen’s keeper also put in a solid effort with six saves to keep the match close.

With the win, the Greyhounds continue to build momentum early in the season. They’ll look to carry that energy into their next matchup at home against West Valley on Tuesday, March 31, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
