The Pullman Greyhounds had their first track and field meet of the season, hosted by Lewiston High School. The track and field team competed against 20 other schools from Washington and Idaho. Overall, the team scores had the girls finishing in 3rd place with 79 points and the boys taking 4th with 61.
Top performers on the boys side included Peter Jobson (800m 2:07.24), Sam Sears (discus throw 136’5”), and Seth Hathaway (high jump 5’10”), all of whom took a bronze medal for the Greyhounds. All of them hit the district qualifying mark. Sears added two top-8 marks in the shot put and javelin throwing competitions as well.
The boys 4x100m relay finished in 2nd overall with a 45.02 mark. The team included Anthony Wright, Jason Li, Silas Wheatley, and Bill Engels. Engels took 5th in the 200m, Li took 5th in the 100m, Wright took 7th overall in the 400m, and A. Wheatley added points for the team score from his long jump competition, finishing 8th. The boys 4x400m (Evan Anderson, Anthony Wright, Caleb Ratliff, and Peter Jobson) finished 5th overall with a 3:40.22 time.
Sophomore Ada Harris won the 800m in 2:28, going well under the Auto District qualifying time. She was followed by her fellow teammates, Poppy Edge (2:36) and Alison Hathaway (2:39), who both achieved qualifying times. Poppy also had a big day in the 1600m, taking 4th and another auto district qualifier. Sophomore Maile Sandberg won the pole vault event with a vault of 9 feet, which makes her an Auto District qualifier.
Jennabee Harris took 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles and 6th in the high jump, hitting Auto District qualifiers in both events. The girls 4×400 team (Olivia Whitworth, Jennabee Harris, Cici Maile, and Ada Harris) took 3rd.
The Greyhounds compete next at the Howard Dolphin Invitational, which is hosted by West Valley High School on Saturday, March 23rd.
