Soccer overpowers Bantams 7-0

Greyhound Soccer opened league-play at Clarkston on Thursday night.  The young Bantam squad held tough for the first 25 minutes of the match, getting good numbers behind the ball and being disruptive enough to prevent Pullman from scoring despite a flurry of shots and corner kicks. Lukas Wexler finally got the scoring started in the 28th minutes, and Kia Hirose got his first goal of the season, just before half, off a Leon Lange assist. In the second half, the flood gates opened with Pullman scoring five times (Lean Lange, Clarens Dollin, Lukas Wexler, and Carlens Dollin (2)); Evan French had three second half assists. Pullman outshot Clarkston 24-0.

It was the first time Pullman played at Clarkston in four years. The last game was a 2-0 Pullman District Tournament loss on May 4, 2019.  All games were canceled due to Covid in 2020; the two teams only meet in Pullman in the abbreviated Spring 2021 season, and Clarkston forfeited its two Pullman matches last season.  Clarkston’s football field is a tough place play; it is narrow and uneven — tough to play quality possession.

The win over Clarkston was Pullman’s third victory of the week in which the Hounds scored 18 goals and gave up just one. Aaron Oatley now has four clean sheets this season.

Pullman faces a surprising Rogers squad (3-2) next Tuesday in Spokane.
