PHS Leaps & Bounds Into Their First Meet

We opened our season at the Sweeney Invitational today in Lewiston ID, which hosted 19 teams and over 500 participants.

Pullman had a great opening day with strong performances against a huge field of athletes. The main thing we were looking for today was to see our athletes use this as this as an icebreaker meet and come out and really compete. They did just that. We were impressed the way they showed up and laid it all out there – both in the way they competed and the way they supported each other. Despite it being so early in the season, a large number of athletes came out and hit early and outstanding PRs and nearly all of them ran/threw/jumped faster and farther than they started last season. This is only the beginning and it was a fantastic start!

Some highlights include:

Abbie Hulst hit two huge new PRs in the 3200, where she placed 3rd (the results say 2nd but we believe this is an error), and 4th in the 1600.

Ayana Kapofu took 2nd in the Long Jump, also with a nice PR.

Liam Fitzgerald and Peter Jobson went 4, 5 in a stacked 1600, followed by another impressive performance in the 4×4, where Jobson ran our 3rd leg and Fitzgerald our anchor, helping their team claim 4th in the event.

Lydia Park took 3rd in the long jump with a PR.

Cotton Sears 6th in shot out, 7th in discus.

Freshman Ada Harris had a huge day in her first meet ever – taking 6th in the 400, and helping her 4×200 team take 5th and 4×400 team take 3rd.
